MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's lacrosse squad will open the home portion of its 2017 slate with a 9 a.m. Central time scrimmage against High Point on Friday, Feb. 3 at Valley Fields, in what will be the first intercollegiate competition at MU's newly introduced dome facility.

The scrimmage is free to attend and open to the public, though seating is extremely limited inside the new structure. Live statistics will be available on Marquette's athletic website through GameTracker.

High Point marks a familiar opponent for the Golden Eagles, as the two sides have matched-up in preseason action each of the last four seasons. In 2016, Marquette met the Panthers in a road showdown and suffered a narrow, 10-8 defeat despite a pair of tallies from USILA All-American Ryan McNamara.

The Blue and Gold began the spring schedule by prevailing in a 15-14 decision against Michigan in Ann Arbor, on Jan. 21. Junior midfielder Tanner Thomson put his talents on display and netted a team-best four scores, while senior Andy DiMichei potted three of his own.

High Point should prove to be a good test for Marquette, as the Panthers enter 2017 after posting a formidable 9-6 mark and racking up five Southern Conference victories throughout last season's campaign. HPU was ousted in the first round of league tournament action last season by second-seeded Richmond, 17-6.

The Panthers feature a pair of Preseason All-Southern Conference nominees, in senior attackman Michael LeClair and sophomore goalie Tim Troutner, Jr. LeClair has been a force in the SoCon each of the last two campaigns, finishing in the top-two in points in both 2015 and 2016, while Troutner, Jr., posted an impressive, .555 save percentage in his rookie season last year.

Following the meeting with HPU, the Golden Eagles are slated conclude their preseason calendar with a pair of contests on Saturday, Feb. 11, when MU will welcomes Penn and MSOE to Valley Fields. Play with the Quakers will begin at 10 a.m., while the contest with MSOE will follow.
