It Begins: Men's Lacrosse Opens 2013 Season at Ohio State
MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette University men's lacrosse team heads to Columbus, Ohio this weekend to take on the No. 19/17 Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday, Feb. 23 at noon Central time (1 p.m. ET).
Saturday marks an important milestone for one of the newest members of NCAA Division I men's lacrosse, as Marquette will play its first-ever regular-season contest.
A number of Marquette underclassmen and transfers are set to suit up for the first time this weekend. It will also mark the head coaching debut of Joe Amplo.
Ohio State (2-0) has posted back-to-back victories to begin its 2013 campaign with wins coming against Detroit and Jacksonville. Last time out against Jacksonville, the Buckeyes jumped out to an early 4-2 lead and never looked back, defeating the Dolphins 9-6 on the road.
The Buckeyes are lead by senior attackman Logan Schuss, who is the reigning ECAC Player of the Week. Schuss, the captain of the team, has notched 13 points in the team's opening two contests and is third among active NCAA Division 1 players in total points scored.
Although it is their first regular season action, the Golden Eagles saw competition during the 2012-2013 preseason, competing against Michigan, Denison, Hofstra and Penn.
