BIG EAST Release

NEW YORK – Marquette University junior midfielder Ryan McNamara was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll for men’s lacrosse, the league announced on Monday afternoon.

McNamara tied a career high with four goals in Saturday’s season-opening 9-7 victory over Bellarmine to lead the Golden Eagles past the Knights for the first time since their inaugural season of 2013.

The Eagan, Minnesota native posted eight shots on the afternoon and scored the season’s first goal for MU after Marquette fell into a 3-0 hole to begin the contest. He added his second goal midway through the second quarter and scored twice in third. His final fourth and final goal came with just two seconds left in the third quarter to give MU some breathing room after the Knights pulled within a goal.

McNamara was third on the squad in scoring last season with 23 goals and 13 assists and has started in the midfield in all 33 games of his collegiate career. It is the second weekly honor of his career and the first since his four-goal performance at Jacksonville in March 2015.

Marquette, which is receiving votes in both major polls, returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 27 at Richmond in a noon Central time contest.
