Marquette’s Orsini named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

NEW YORK – Marquette University attackman Anthony Orsini was named the BIG EAST Conference’s Freshman of the Week after a five-point performance in Saturday’s victory over Detroit Mercy, while senior Zachary Melillo is on the league’s weekly honor roll.
The Middletown, Maryland native tied a Marquette freshman record with four goals and added an assist to help the Golden Eagles to their second win of the year. He recorded two goals to help MU take an early 3-0 advantage and scored his final pair during a 7-1 run by Marquette that gave the Golden Eagles a commanding 10-3 lead.
Orsini’s four scores tied the freshman goals mark of four set by Conor Gately against High Point on April 13, 2013, while his five points are the most for an MU freshman outside of Gately’s seven points against Mercer on March 12, 2013.
Melillo won 75 percent of the faceoffs (15-of-20) he took in the victory and picked up eight ground balls. He caused also caused a pair of turnovers against the Titans.
The Golden Eagles (2-0) return to Pontiac, Michigan this weekend for a pair of games in the Midwest Lacrosse Classic at Wisner Stadium. MU will face Ohio State at 4 p.m. Central time on Friday, March 2 and Bellarmine at 10 a.m. CT on Sunday, March 4. MU is 1-4 all-time against the Buckeyes and 2-2 against the Knights.
