NEW YORK – Marquette University senior attackman Ryan McNamara has been named to the watch list for the 2017 Tewaaraton Award, presented by Under Armour, the Tewaaraton Foundation announced Tuesday evening.

McNamara, a USILA All-American as a junior in 2016, is Marquette’s all-time leading goal scorer with 81 tallies in 50 career games. He is the second MU player to earn mention on the watch list, following former teammate Conor Gately who was listed in both 2015 and 2016.

The Eagan, Minnesota native posted new Marquette single-season records as a junior last season with 40 goals and 57 assists, while breaking the program’s career goal scoring mark in the process. McNamara is a unanimous All-BIG EAST Preseason Team selection after also earning unanimous selection to the league’s first team at the end of 2016.

The Tewaaraton Award, presented by Under Armour, is recognized as the preeminent lacrosse award. The award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse players in the United States. The award selection committees are made up of premier collegiate coaches and are appointed by The Tewaaraton Foundation.

The award watch lists consists of 50 men’s and 50 women’s nominees across all three divisions of lacrosse. Players not selected to the initial list will have several opportunities to play their way into a spot as the season progresses. Watch list additions will be announced on March 16 and April 6. On April 27, the watch list will be narrowed to 25 men’s and 25 women’s nominees. Nominees can be players on the watch list or not on the watch list, effectively allowing for a third round of additions.

Five men’s and five women’s finalists will be announced on May 11. The finalists will then be invited to Washington, D.C. for the 17th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony on June 1.

The Golden Eagles (1-1) return to action on Friday, March 3 when they host the Midwest Lacrosse Classic at Valley Fields. Marquette will face No. 20/17 Ohio State at 7 p.m. on Friday before playing Detroit Mercy on Sunday at 3 p.m.
