Bryan Badolato Named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
March 3, 2014
MILWAUKEE - Marquette University attackman Bryan Badolato was named BIG EAST Conference men's lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon. He becomes the first MU player in program history to win the award.
Badolato, a redshirt senior, tied a career high Saturday scoring five goals on just nine shots, a shot percentage of .555. The West Islip, N.Y. native led a Golden Eagles' attack that attempted a program high 47 shots in a 16-12 loss at Marist on Saturday.
Badolato earned his first hat trick of the season and third of his Marquette career with a goal midway through the third quarter. His fourth goal came moments later to cut the deficit to 11-8. The redshirt senior's fifth and final goal followed a Tyler Melnyk goal early in the fourth quarter to come within two goals of Marist at 12-10.
Badolato first notched five goals in a win at Mercer last season, which was a program high coming into the 2014 campaign. This now makes him the only Marquette player to achieve this feat twice.
A shot percentage of .500 on the season ranks Badolato 19th in the nation.
As a team, Marquette only turned the ball over eight times on Saturday decreasing its BIG EAST leading turnover margin to 11.25 per game. This improves the Golden Eagles' national ranking to fifth in turnovers per game.
