McNamara and Richard are BIG EAST Players of the Week

The duo led the Golden Eagles (6-1) to a 9-8 victory over Georgetown in their BIG EAST opener on Saturday afternoon at Valley Fields on a pair of career-best performances.
McNamara continued his tear to start the season by finishing with a career-best five goals against the Hoyas, including his third game winner of 2016. The Eagan, Minnesota native has scored at least four goals in four of MU’s seven games and sits third nationally with an average of 3.14 goals per contest.
Richard tied a Marquette program record he shares with two others on Saturday by picking up nine ground balls against Georgetown and also pitched in offensively with his second goal of the season.
The West Chester, Pennsylvania native has been an indispensable member of MU’s faceoff and defensive units this season, leading both to top-five national statistical rankings. With Richard’s help, the Golden Eagles won 71.4 percent at the faceoff X against the Hoyas and currently sit fourth in the nation with a faceoff winning percentage of 66.4 percent. The Major League Lacrosse draftee also anchors a MU defense that is second nationally goals against by allowing opponents just 6.71 goals per contest.
McNamara and Richard will lead the Golden Eagles against the nation’s second-best scoring offense on Saturday, April 2 when they welcome No. 5/6 Villanova to Valley Fields at 1 p.m. Central time.
