NEW YORK -- Marquette sophomore goalie Jimmy Danaher was named the BIG EAST Conference Defensive Player of the Week for men's lacrosse on Monday afternoon, while midfielder Kyle Whitlow earned a spot on the weekly honor roll.

Danaher made 10 saves in the Golden Eagles' 9-8 win at Villanova and withstood a 42-26 VU edge in shots as Marquette overcame eight ties for its fifth one-goal win. The Blauvelt, New York native has been MU's goalie of record in all nine contests and sports an 8.65 goals against average and a save percentage of .532.

It is the second career weekly honor for Danaher, who also earned the league's defensive player of the week accolade on April 14, 2013.

Whitlow led the Golden Eagles with his third hat trick of the year against the Wildcats and sits just two goals shy of Tyler Melnyk's program record of 59 career goals. The Orillia, Ontario native was an All-BIG EAST Preseason Team selection at midfield and was named to the honor roll earlier this season after scoring a career-best four goals in MU's 11-10 win at Hofstra on Feb. 14.

The redshirt junior is Marquette's third-leading scorer in 2015 with 16 goals and six assists and received league weekly honors twice last season.

The Golden Eagles, who maintained their position at No. 13 in the USILA Coaches' Poll and No. 12 in the media poll, return to action at 2 p.m. Central time on Tuesday against Bellarmine at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky.
