Marquette’s Blazer on BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
May 1, 2018
NEW YORK - Marquette University men’s lacrosse senior Cole Blazer was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll on Monday for his 14-save performance against then-No. 4 Denver on Saturday in the regular season finale.
Blazer held the NCAA’s 11th-ranked scoring offense to just seven goals on 37 shots in a 7-4 loss. The Libertyville, Illinois native allowed just one goal in the first and fourth quarters and made eight saves in the first half to keep the Golden Eagles at arm’s length.
The Marquette defense limited the Pioneers to their second-lowest goal output of the season and Blazer ends the regular season as the BIG EAST leader in saves per game (12.40) in conference play. He’s also second among league starters in save percentage (.554) in BIG EAST action.
This is Blazer’s third weekly accolade following his honor roll selection for posting a season-best 16 saves at St. John’s on April 7.
Fourth-seeded Marquette will face No. 3 and top-seeded Denver again in the semifinals of the BIG EAST Men’s Lacrosse Championship, presented by Jeep on Thursday, May 3 at 3:30 p.m. Central time in Villanova, Pennsylvania.
