Jakub West Inspires Marquette Lacrosse Teammates
May 16, 2013
Meet Jakub West. An energetic, fun-loving eight-and-a-half year-old from Illinois, Jakub has endeared himself to the Marquette University men's lacrosse team over the past 18 months and has become a source of inspiration for the Golden Eagles.
Jakub was introduced to Marquette head men's lacrosse coach Joe Amplo through the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation.
The Friends of Jaclyn Foundation works to improve the quality of life for children with pediatric brain tumors and their families by pairing them with college and high school athletic teams.
Co-founders Denis and Lynda Murphy started the program in 2005 after their daughter, Jaclyn, who was suffering from a malignant brain tumor, developed a special friendship with the Northwestern women's lacrosse team. The Murphys wanted to create opportunities for other children to have similar relationships.
Jakub was recognized as an honorary team member back on April 20 in front of over 1,200 fans before the Golden Eagles 2013 home opener against Detroit.
