May 23, 2018
PERRY, New York - Former Marquette University men's lacrosse player Zachary Melillo was one of four face-off specialists selected to compete in the USILA/Nike North-South Division I/II Senior All-Star Game, the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association announced on Tuesday evening.
The 77th Annual USILA/Nike North-South Senior All-Star games will be played at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, Rhode Island on Friday, May 25 with face-off slated for 6:30 p.m. Central time.
Melillo is Marquette's all-time leader in face-off wins (464) and winning percentage (.551) and ranks seventh nationally in career wins among active players in 2018. The Warren, New Jersey native was a three-time All-BIG EAST selection during his MU career and helped the Golden Eagles to their first two BIG EAST Tournament titles and NCAA Championship appearances in 2016 and 2017.
He won 57.5 percent at the face-off X in 2018 by going 131-of-228 and led the team with 48 ground balls. After returning from a midseason injury, Melillo won almost 70 percent in the next four games, which included contests against St. John's and Providence and top-10 squads in Villanova and Notre Dame.
The annual senior all-star game started in 1940 and has been played every year with the exception of 1944 and 1945. The games bring together 140 of the finest senior men's lacrosse players in the country across divisions I, II and III.
The North-South game kicks off a Memorial Day weekend filled with lacrosse in New England as the 2018 NCAA Men's Lacrosse semifinals and championships will be held 25 miles north of Providence at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
Bill Dunn of NYIT will coach the Division I/II North team and Drew McMinn of Robert Morris will coach the Division I/II South team, of which Melillo will be a member.
