McNamara and DeMichiei picked in MLL Collegiate Draft

FOXBOROUGH, Massachusetts ­– Former Marquette University men’s lacrosse players Ryan McNamara and Andy DeMichiei were each selected on Sunday afternoon in the 2017 MLL Collegiate Draft in Foxborough, Massachusetts. McNamara was selected by the Rochester Rattlers with the 49th overall pick in the sixth round, while DeMichiei went 80th overall to the Ohio Machine with the eighth pick of the ninth round.

McNamara and DeMichiei becomes the fourth and fifth former MU players chosen in the league’s collegiate draft, joining 2016 draftees Liam Byrnes (Florida), Jacob Richard (New York) and B.J. Grill (Denver). All three of those drafted last year are currently on MLL rosters, as well as Conor Gately, who recently joined the Rattlers from the league’s supplemental draft in December.

McNamara is a two-time USILA Honorable Mention All-American and All-BIG EAST First Team selection who is Marquette’s all-time leader in numerous statistical categories, including goals (102), points (152), games played (64) and started (63), game-winning goals (10) and shots. The Eagan, Minnesota native helped lead the Golden Eagles to back-to-back BIG EAST tournament championships as a junior and senior and the first two NCAA Championship appearances in program history.

Playing both in the midfield and on attack during his career, McNamara set single-season program records for goals (40) and points (57) as a junior and was an Inside Lacrosse Third Team Preseason All-American entering his senior campaign.


 

 

DeMichiei was an All-BIG EAST Second Team selection as a senior while posting 16 goals and a team-high 16 assists. The Senior CLASS Award nominee was a three-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection and sits fifth all-time in Marquette history with 41 career goals and 77 points. The 2017 team captain also holds the MU single-game program record with seven goals at St. John’s as a junior.
