MLAX Departs for Italy on Monday

MILWAUKEE- The Marquette University men’s lacrosse team, consisting of more than 85 student-athletes, coaches, staff, family, and friends, is set to venture on a 10-day Italian experience beginning Monday, June 13.

The Golden Eagles will depart the morning of June 13 and arrive in Milan, Italy the next morning. While across the pond, MU will play three exhibition games and visit iconic cities such as Verona, Venice, Bologna, Florence, Pisa, and Rome.

Fans can expect frequent updates of the team’s adventures by following Marquette men’s lacrosse on social media via Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

After the squad lands in Milan, it will travel to Verona for a guided walking tour of the city and a welcome dinner. The next day, Marquette will head to Venice where they will be able to explore historic venues such as St. Mark’s Basilica and Rialto Bridge.

On June 16, the Golden Eagles will bus to Bologna for a walking tour and pasta-making demonstration.

Marquette will face Team England on June 17 in Prato at 6:30 p.m., local time. Prior to the match, the squad will spend the day in Florence where they will be able to explore famous sights such as Brunelleschi’s Duomo, Giotto’s Bell Tower, and Piazza della Signoria. Team England is in the midst of preparations for the 2016 European Lacrosse Championship. 

The team will remain in the Florence region for the next two days for its second and third contests against the English National Team. Around the contests, the Blue and Gold will take a walking tour of Porto, attend a civic reception with the mayor of Porto, share a meal with Team England, and Italian players, and have time to visit the Leaning Tower of Pisa, as well as several other Romanesque buildings.

Following the stay in the Florence region, MU will head to Rome for the final three days of the excursion. The Golden Eagles will be able to visit the Colosseum, the Forum, the Sistine Chapel, and a plethora of other cultural spectacles.

Marquette will enjoy a farewell dinner on its final night in Rome before returning home to Milwaukee on Thursday, June 23.
