Men's basketball summer workouts conclude
Members of the men's basketball program have a brief time off following the conclusion of session II of summer classes. Here's a short playlist from this summer of head coach Steve Wojciechowski's breakdown of his newcomers, staff and the Marquette's men's basketball family:
WSOC falls at Madison, begins regular season next week
Junior forward Jamie Kutey scored in the second minute of action during Thursday’s exhibition opener at Wisconsin, but the women’s soccer team fell 4-1 in Madison. The Golden Eagles, who have been training at Camp Whitcomb since Sunday, return to the Valley for Friday’s Fan Fest and will be back on campus for good on Sunday. They are slated to open regular season action in Milwaukee against No. 2 Stanford on Friday, Aug. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in a match broadcast live on GoMarquette.com.

Madden on All-BIG EAST Preseason Team, WSOC pegged third
Redshirt junior forward Carrie Madden was named to the All-BIG EAST Conference Preseason Team and the women’s soccer squad was selected to finish third in the annual preseason survey of the league’s coaches.
The 2016 BIG EAST regular season co-champions return 15 letter winners from a team that posted a 12-8-2 mark (7-2 BIG EAST) and made its 13th NCAA tournament appearance. Madden, who played just one match in her first two years, led MU with 17 points in 2016 on six goals and five assists while starting 20 of 22 games. She earned All-BIG EAST Championship recognition after lifting the Golden Eagles into the conference tournament final with a golden goal in overtime of the semifinals against St. John’s.

MSOC hosts Green Bay Sunday to begin exhibition play
The men’s soccer team hosts Green Bay at Valley Fields for its first exhibition match on Sunday at 7:05 p.m. and travels to Loyola-Chicago for their final scrimmage next Saturday. The Golden Eagles will open regular season action at Kentucky on Friday, Aug. 25 before making their home regular season debut on Friday, Sept. 1 at 6:05 p.m. as part of a triple header at Valley Fields, which includes a pair of women’s matches.

MLAX has four in MLL semifinals on Saturday
Four former men's lacrosse players, B.J. Grill, Conor Gately, Ryan McNamara and Liam Byrnes, will play in the Major League Lacrosse semifinals on Saturday, Aug. 12. It is the MLL playoff debuts for Gately, McNamara and Byrnes and both games can be viewed live at MLL.Twitter.com.
Grill and the defending MLL Champions, the Denver Outlaws (9-5), will host Gately, McNamara and the Rochester Rattlers (8-6) at Peter Barton Stadium at the University of Denver on Saturday, Aug. 12 with the first faceoff at 3:30 p.m. Central time.
Byrnes and the Florida Launch (8-6) will travel to Obetz, Ohio to take on the Ohio Machine (9-5) at 6:30 p.m. CT.

Volleyball preseason has begun at the Al
After extending its string of consecutive NCAA Championship berths to six last fall, the women’s volleyball team began preseason workouts earlier this week at the Al McGuire Center. The Golden Eagles will host a free open practice at the Al on Sunday, Aug. 20 before making the trek to Hawai’i for the start of the regular season on Friday Aug. 25, where they will also face No. 13 UCLA and No. 22 San Diego in addition to the 20th-ranked Rainbow Wahine.
M Club Golf outing is Monday at The Legend at Brandybrook
The 36th annual M Club Golf Outing will take place on Monday, Aug. 14 at The Legend at Brandybrook in Wales, Wisconsin with registration and the driving range open to participants at 10:30 p.m. A noon shotgun start will follow and 11 a.m. barbecue lunch, while the dinner and program is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
The primary mission of the M Club is to provide support for Marquette athletics -- primarily for the student-athletes -- and to encourage camaraderie among its alumni letter winners. More than $600,000 has been raised through the outing with all proceeds benefiting MU athletics. Head coach Steve Wojciechowski will be in attendance and a part of the program, previewing the 2017-18 campaign.
