Men's Lacrosse Announces 2015 Schedule
Sept. 10, 2014
In their third season of Division I play, the Golden Eagles will match up against some of the top programs in the country. In the month of April alone, Marquette faces national runner-up Notre Dame, back-to-back national champion Duke, and BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse Champion Denver. All three teams made the 2014 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship Final Four with Duke defeating Notre Dame in the final.
In 2014, the Golden Eagles won four consecutive BIG EAST games to finish second overall to earn the second seed in the BIG EAST tournament before falling to Villanova in the semifinals. Head Coach Joe Amplo specifically scheduled two sets of Friday-Sunday games in preparation for the BIG EAST tournament format which only gives the finalists one day of rest after the semifinal game.
"Our schedule is similar to last year, in that everything is built towards trying to win that BIG EAST automatic qualifier," said Amplo. "If you look at the schedule you see two Friday-Sunday competition weekends, which mimic the BIG EAST tournament. That's what we're trying to build towards, trying to be best prepared to compete in the round-robin portion."
Again in 2015, Marquette will face five of the six opponents it defeated last season after finishing 6-10.
Similar to the last two seasons, Marquette will play the majority of its games on the road. Including two preseason scrimmages, the Golden Eagles play their first 12 games away from Milwaukee.
In a new addition to this year's schedule, the Golden Eagles will travel to Bellarmine on February 27 and March 1 to play a round-robin against Detroit and Ohio State, respectively. The four teams have agreed to make this an annual series.
All game times to be announced at a later date.
