MILWAUKEE - Twenty-two newcomers have joined the Marquette University men's lacrosse program for the 2016-17 academic year to help offset the loss of the first 19 four-year student-athletes in program history.

"We are excited to welcome a large group of student-athletes to campus," Marquette head coach Joe Amplo said. "This contingent of young men come from very diverse backgrounds and are entering the Marquette Community at a great time. In the wake of those who came before, and did so much for our program, this new collection of Marquette Lacrosse players has a lot to live up to and some great things to prove. We all look forward to helping them grow as individuals and having them impact our culture."

The group includes student-athletes from 12 different U.S. states, as well as Ontario, and features three players each from California, Washington, Minnesota and Pennsylvania.

The Golden Eagles will also have a Grill and Fleming on the field yet again as the program adds a pair of legacy recruits in USA Today First Team All-American Nick Grill (younger brother of B.J. Grill) and Griffin Fleming (brother of Blaine Fleming). They join sophomore Noah Richard (brother of Jacob Richard) as legacies on the MU roster.

In all, the class includes nine long pole players, two goalies, one faceoff specialist and 10 midfielders/attackmen.

The Golden Eagles return seven starters from the first NCAA tournament team in program history, including USILA All-American Ryan McNamara and All-BIG EAST goalie Cole Blazer. Marquette ended the 2016 campaign No. 11 in the USILA Coaches Poll and captured its first BIG EAST Championship over then-No. 1 Denver on its way to a record 11 victories.
