MILWAUKEE – The two-time defending BIG EAST Conference tournament champion Marquette University men’s lacrosse team has announced its schedule for 2017-18, beginning with a pair of fall contests on Oct. 21-22 in California.

The Golden Eagles, who began fall practice on Monday morning, will face their second international team in as many years with an Oct. 21 scrimmage against Team Scotland and play Utah, a squad that will join the NCAA Division I ranks in 2018-19, on Sunday, Oct. 22. Both exhibition contests will be held at Sequoia High School in Redwood City, California.

The spring semester begins with three road scrimmages before regular season action starts with the home opener against Jacksonville on Saturday, Feb. 17 at Valley Fields. MU will play its spring scrimmages at Cleveland State (Jan. 27), Johns Hopkins (Feb. 3) and Penn (Feb. 10).

Over the course of the month following the Jacksonville game, Marquette will spend three weekends in the state of Michigan with games at Detroit Mercy (Feb. 24) and Michigan (March 17) as well neutral site contests against Ohio State (March 2) and Bellarmine (March 4) in the Midwest Lacrosse Classic, hosted by UDM.

The week between the Midwest Lacrosse Classic and the U of M game, MU will host Robert Morris on Saturday, March 10 at the start of the University’s spring break.

BIG EAST regular season play begins with a pair of home games against Georgetown and Villanova on March 24 and March 31, respectively. MU defeated the Hoyas, 11-10 in the 2017 league opener and fell to the Wildcats in overtime (10-9) the following week.

The Golden Eagles then will travel to St. John’s on April 7 before returning to Milwaukee for their final two home games of the year.

Notre Dame makes its first trip to Milwaukee since 2014 on Wednesday, April 11 and MU will host Providence on Saturday, April 14 for Senior Day. Marquette’s final two games of 2017 came against those two squads, a 10-9 win in the BIG EAST title game at Providence and a 15-9 loss to the Irish in the first round of the NCAA Championship.

The Golden Eagles will hit the road to close out the year with contests at Duke (April 21) and Denver (April 28) and aim to retain their BIG EAST tournament crown on May 3 and May 5 at Villanova.

Marquette returns five starters from a team that won its second BIG EAST tournament title in a row and made its second trip to the NCAA tournament. The Golden Eagles return BIG EAST Championship Most Outstanding Player Cole Blazer in net and two-thirds of their main face-off unit, including two-time All-BIG EAST face-off specialist Zachary Melillo.
