MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men’s lacrosse team plays its only two scrimmages of the fall this weekend against Team Scotland and the University of Utah at Sequoia High School in Redwood City, California.

The two-time defending BIG EAST Conference tournament champion Golden Eagles will participate in clinics before each of their two games, beginning with Saturday’s exhibition against Scotland at 7:30 p.m. Central time. MU will then faceoff against Utah at 2 p.m. Central time on Sunday.

The scrimmages will allow Marquette to make a trip to the West Coast with six Golden Eagles who hail from the Golden State. It also allows for MU to compete against two programs looking to establish themselves, as Scotland builds towards the FIL World Championships and Utah readies for its jump into NCAA Division I during the 2018-19 year.

“I’ve known (Utah head coach) Brian (Holman) for seven or eight years, competing against him when he was at Carolina, and when he started the program he called on me a lot,” Marquette head coach Joe Amplo said. “He called me like every week for like two or three months to talk about developing a program. So, we have developed a good relationship and I said let’s try and help each other out.”

The clinics will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21 and Sunday, Oct. 22 in conjunction with both squads.

“The Team Scotland guys organized it and it will be fun to be out there with the Utah guys and work with their players and staff,” Amplo said.

MU’s spring semester begins with three road scrimmages before regular season action starts with the home opener against Jacksonville on Saturday, Feb. 17 at Valley Fields. MU will play its spring exhibitions at Cleveland State (Jan. 27), Johns Hopkins (Feb. 3) and Penn (Feb. 10).

Marquette returns five starters from a team that won its second BIG EAST tournament title in a row and made its second trip to the NCAA tournament. The Golden Eagles return BIG EAST Championship Most Outstanding Player Cole Blazer in net and two-thirds of their main face-off unit, including two-time All-BIG EAST face-off specialist Zachary Melillo. All-BIG EAST Second Team honorees Tanner Thomson and Nick Grill also return for MU.
