At Sacred Heart-Griffin: Flynn is a product of Sacred Heart-Griffin High School in Springfield, Ill, where he won four soccer letters playing for Sam Tate. He was a member of a high school team that was a state champion in 2002, a third place finisher in 2000 and a runner up in 1999. He was selected to his conference's all-league team and served as a team captain as a senior. He was also a member of the Metro FC club team. He was high school teammates with Nathan Sabich, who also signed with Marquette. Flynn was also a selection for the adidas Elite Soccer Program (ESP) Camp in the summer of 2002. The ESP Camp is an invitation only camp in which the top high school juniors and seniors in the country are selected to participate. His academic dossier includes membership in the German National Honor Societ, Wilderness Adventure Club and Spirit Club.

Personal: Born September 30, 1984, Flynn is the son of Neil and Susan Flynn. He has an older brother, Daniel, and a younger sister, Mallory. He is an education major.
