All-Time Awards

Jim Welch enters his second season as an assistant coach for the Marquette men's soccer team. In addition to his assistance in all aspects of the men's program, Welch will also aid the MU women's team, working with the goalkeepers.

In 2001, Welch helped guide the MU men's team to a second place finish at the C-USA Tournament. Throughout the season, he assisted in the training of players selected all-conference, all-region and All-American. The 2001 season was also just the second time in school history that both the men's and women's teams posted goals against averages of below 1.00.

Welch has coaching experience as a member of the Wisconsin ODP state coaching staff and as a 2002 ODP Region Staff Coach. He currently holds a USSF National D Coaching License.

Welch graduated from Marquette in 2000 and was a four-year letterwinner fro current head coach Steve Adlard. In his four years at MU, Welch became the school's all-time career leader in wins (42), saves (385) and shutouts (28).

He also ranks second in career GAA (1.24). During his playing career, Welch earned spots on three all-conference teams, was first-team all-region and was selected to participate in he 1999 Umbro Select College All-Star Game.

Following his playing days at MU, Welch joined the professional ranks as a member of the MLS Project-40 team in 1999 and the Los Angeles Galaxy. In 2000, he played with the A-League's Milwaukee Rampage.

Prior to Marquette, Welch earned both Umbro/NSCAA and Parade Magazine All-American honors and was a member of the U-18 and U-20 U.S. Youth National Team Pools. He was also the starting goalkeeper for the U-17 National Champion Club Ohio/Dynamo soccer team and was named most valuable goalkeeper of that tournament.
