Prior to Marquette: Matter was a three-year captain and letterwinner at Kettle Moraine Lutheran under head coach Matt Moeller. He was named the team's MVP following his senior season in which he posted eight shutouts and helped lead the Chargers to their third straight regional title. Matter was named Kettle Moraine Lutheran's Defensive Player of the Year in 2006 after posting six shutouts. He was a First Team All-Parkland Conference selection in 2006 and a Second Team All-Wisconsin Flyway Conference selection in 2007. Matter has also earned numerous academic accolades, while graduating in the top 10 in his class. He played club soccer for F.C. Milwaukee under coach Wendell Willis.

Personal: Ethan Taylor Matter was born June 19, 1989. He is the son of Randy and Karla Matter and has one older brother and two younger sisters. Matter is majoring in International Business and Finance.
