Vorberg Named MISL Goalkeeper of the Year

Marquette assistant earns second career nod

Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) standout Nick Vorberg joined the Marquette University men's soccer coaching staff in July 2012. His primary duties include training and mentoring the MU goalkeepers in addition to camp instruction.

A fixture between the posts, Vorberg has been a veteran goalkeeper with the Milwaukee Wave for over a decade. The four-time MISL all-star garnered the league's goalkeeper of the year award following the 2009-10 and 2012-13 seasons, respectively and ranks second on the Wave's all-time list in wins.

In June 2013, Vorberg played with the U.S. Futsal national team at the Four Nations Tournament in Newcastle, England, where the U.S. team won all three of its matches.

"It's certainly a great asset anytime you can add someone to the coaching staff who has been successful and has won championships at a high level," Bennett said of Vorberg prior to the 2012 season, Vorberg's first year at MU. "He's had a very profound professional career and he's exhibited the ability to teach the game. I'm looking for him to infuse his dynamic and his knowledge to help continue the strong goalkeeper culture at Marquette."

In addition to stops with the San Diego Sockers, Utah Freeze and the Portland Pythons, Vorberg has also been a member of the U.S. men's national futsal team, which included appearances at the 2008 FIFA Futsal World Cup and CONCACAF Championships, as well as the 2007 Pan American Games. His outdoor playing experience includes stints with the Cascade Surge (1997-99) of the USISL Pro League, former USL Premiere Development League side Lafayette Lightning (2001) and the Milwaukee Wave United (2004-06).

Vorberg, who holds a United States Soccer Federation "B" license in coaching, also serves as the academy director at SC Waukesha and has been involved with the local club since 2006.

In 2010, he was inducted into the Pacific University (Ore.) Athletic Hall of Fame. As one of the top goalkeepers in school history, Vorberg earned all-conference and all-region accolades in 1996 after guiding the Boxers to the Northwest Conference championship and a No. 20 national ranking. His 17 victories that season are a school record. He also held Pacific's single-season mark in saves upon graduating with an education degree.

A native of Grants Pass, Ore., Vorberg is active in the community by participating regularly in the "Making Waves" program, helping Milwaukee Wave teammates and coaches conduct school assemblies that teach health education throughout Southeastern Wisconsin.

Vorberg resides in Pewaukee, Wis., with his wife Elisabeth and son Kinsey.
