2005: Ruiz played in 12 matches as a sophomore, starting once. His presence was most notable on the defensive end. He did push forward for select offensive chances, taking three shots on the year. He was more a defensive minded player than the season before, when he took 14 shots. 2004: Ruiz scored the first goal of his career to help Marquette beat Drake (Sept. 17). Ruiz played in 18 matches in his first season, starting 17. He also recorded a pair of assists and led all freshman scorers on the team with four points. At Marquette: Ruiz was selected to the first team all-state squad as a senior. He was a regional All-America selection as a senior and was a member of four state champion soccer teams at Marquette. He has earned first team all-conference, all-area and all-state honors at Marquette High. He notched five goals and six assists as a senior. He was coached as a Hilltopper by Bob Spielman.
