2002: A career starter, Wagner's junior year numbers paralleled his previous two seasons. He earned 19 starts, assisted on one goal and had one yellow card, all numbers he posted his previous two seasons. However, Wagner's play is not about accumulating statistics. He was part of a tough Marquette defense that allowed 1.12 goals per game. Joining back-line mates Steve Lawrence, Theran Motl, Tom Nolan and Adam Ubert, Wagner developed into a force in the MU backfield.
2001: Wagner's followed up an award-filled first season with a solid sophomore season. He was a mainstay on the defensive front, starting in 19 of 21 matches. He was a key contributor to Marquette holding its opponents to a 0.93 goals against average. Wagner was limited in his offensive contribution, adding three shots to his stats, but he did have an assist on a Sean Reti goal against San Francisco (Sept. 20).
2000: Wagner's first year performance on the defensive line earned him a Conference USA All-Freshman Team nod. A prototypical defender, Wagner is a swift defender that can push up and be active in the offense when needed. While it was his defensive play that was counted on during the year, he did have some offensive success during his 19 starts. Wagner made his collegiate debut against Wis.-Milwaukee (Sept. 1) in the season opener. He had five shots on the year, but recorded an assist in the season's final game, a 4-3 win over DePaul (Nov. 1)
At Catholic Memorial: One of four players from Catholic Memorial to play college soccer, Wagner and current Marquette teammate Eric Marshall played together in high school. Wagner helped his team reach the state championship match in 1998 and 1999. He struggled in his final season due to injury , missing a month of play due to a broken bone in his foot. Despite the missed time, he earned second team all-conference in his senior year. He also guided his under-17 club team to a state title in 1999 and repeated the feat with the under-18 team in 2000. Wagner was on the honor roll all four years and was a member of the National Honor Society.
