MILWAUKEE - A goal by senior Nathan Sabich jump started the Marquette attack, but the Golden Eagles couldn't use that momentum to pick up a win. Marquette (1-13-1, 0-9 BIG EAST) fell to Seton Hall (8-6-1, 6-3 BIG EAST), 3-1 as a result.

The Pirates got on the board first, scoring in the 30th minute. John Raus was the goal scorer that was started from Teddy Niziolek and Gordon Kljestan. Seton Hall had maintained possession for some time and Marquette struggled to clear. Kljestan reversed the ball and Niziolek fed to Raus for the score. Niziolek was the second scorer for Seton Hall. In the 65th minute, he scored off a Marquette turnover looping a shot in from 20 yards out.

"Until they scored that first goal, I thought we played very well defensively," head coach Louis Bennett said. "They are no slouch of a team. We got caught ball watching a bit and they slipped it in the seams."

Shortly thereafter, Marquette got on the board. In the 77th minute, Sabich blasted a ball from 35 yards out that stunned Seton Hall keeper Ian Joyce, who was left with little opportunity to stop the well-placed strike. Sabich's goal ended a 539-minute stretch with out a goal and kick-started the Golden Eagles.

MU had plenty of opportunities, including a pair from freshman Michael Greene. Greene had two headers from perfect crosses that just missed scoring. In the first half, a cross from Mehdi Eslami was saved by Joyce. Sophomore Dan Addis played the rebound, but Joyce moved to make two of his four saves on the night in that flurry. Greene also was nearly the finisher on a smart cross from freshman Tom Lynn, but he played it just wide.

"Had we scored that first goal, I think it would have set us up to score goals like a rolling stone," Bennett said. "We put the ball in the target areas and we created some opportunities to score goals. It's not hard to score goals, but we have to put ourselves in a situation where scoring goals is something familiar. It's just a matter of putting the ball on the frame and forcing the keeper to make a save."

Seton Hall put the game out of reach late when Eliso Giusfredi scored on a breakaway goal as Marquette was pressing forward. John Raus chipped the ball forward and Guisfredi was narrowly on-side at the halfline. Marquette keeper Marc Dettmann was playing forward and Guisfredi lobbed a long range shot over the MU senior.

"We've got guys that are upset because we lost," Bennett said. "I've got guys that were on the brink of exploding tonight because they want to make something happen. It's my job to channel that emotion, but I like that they are having that emotion."

In all, Marquette had seven shots and held ground with five shots on goal to Seton Hall's five.

The Golden Eagles return to action for their final home contest on Wednesday, October 18 at 7 p.m. at Valley Fields, hosting Connecticut.
