MILWAUKEE - A pair of second-half goals lifted the No. 5/4 Marquette University men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Seton Hall at Valley Fields on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, MU clinches a spot in the BIG EAST Men's Soccer Championship for the fourth consecutive season with two regular-season matches left on the ledger.

Senior forward Anthony Selvaggi (54') and junior defensive midfielder Eric Pothast (68') found the back of the net for the Golden Eagles (14-1-0, 5-1-0 BIG EAST) while redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Charlie Lyon was credited with his ninth shutout of the season. The loss dropped Seton Hall to 6-9-0 overall with a 2-4-0 record in league matches.

A brilliant save by Lyon in the 49th minute kept the match level at 0-0 as Lyon left his line to deflect a shot by Seton Hall's John Gurel from just inside of left corner of box. Lyon is now just one clean sheet away from matching the MU single-season shutout record set in 1994.

Marquette finally opened the scoring when sophmore forward Sebastian Jannson played it back to teammate Paul Dillon on the left channel with a quick 1-2 combination near the endline. Dillon sent a low cross to the top of the six-yard box where Selvaggi was waiting to volley it past the Seton Hall goalkeeper to make it 1-0 in favor of the Golden Eagles at the 53:55 mark.

Selvaggi, whose second goal of the season was Marquette's first shot on target of the match, helped make it 2-0 in the 68th minute when he played a ball into the box that Pothast headed off the keeper. Pothast got his own rebound and sent his second shot inside the right corner of the net from point-blank range.

Defending division champion Marquette is undefeated in its nine home matches this season and remained atop the Blue Division standings now with 15 points in league play.

Marquette returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 24, at division rival Notre Dame in the first of two back-to-back matches against the No. 9/7 Fighting Irish. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. Central time. MU will then host Notre Dame in the final match of the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 27, at Valley Fields.

Marquette Starters: Lyon (GK), Dillon, Sjoberg, Ciesiulka, Robb, Selvaggi, E. Pothast, Jansson, Hermsen, J. Pothast, Islami (Subs: Huftalin, Lysak, Hoover, Behm, Schillinger)
