MILWAUKEE- The Marquette University men's soccer team fell to No. 15/14 Louisville 1-0 in the quarter final of the 2011 BIG EAST Men's Soccer Championship Sunday afternoon at Valley Fields.  Colin Rolfe scored in the 23rd minute to lift the Red Division's No. 4 seed into the semifinals.

The loss eliminates the Golden Eagles from the BIG EAST championship, following their first ever Blue Division title.

In the opening minutes, both team had chances on corner kicks.  However, headers from senior Calum Mallace and Colin Rolfe sailed over the crossbar. In the 23rd minute, Kenney Walker stole the ball and bombed a pass down field that found Rolfe, who made a couple of cuts before slotting a shot past David Check for his team-leading seventh goal of the season.

Right at the onset of the second half, Paul Dillon whipped a cross to an open Anthony Selvaggi, but Selvaggi's header rebounded off the crossbar and back into play.

In the 57th minute, Bryan Ciesiulka intercepted a pass at midfield and played a through ball to C. Nortey who was streaking down field. Nortey went down under a challenge inside the box from a Louisville defender as he shot was put on net.

Just a minute later, Nick DeLeon sent a cross into the box that found Alexander Obbey wide open at the edge of the six yard box. However, Obbey's header went directly into the arms of David Check.

The game took a rather physical turn in the second half, culminating in Obbey's ejection in the 81st minute after picking up his second yellow card of the match. The teams combined for 30 fouls (UL: 17, MU: 13) in the physical tilt, including four cautions and Obbey's ejection.

Marquette outshot Louisville 14-6, but only put two of those shots on goal to Louisville's four. MU also held a nine to three corner kick advantage in the match.

Louisville will meet Connecticut in the semifinals of the league tournament in Harrision, N.J., at Red Bull Arena next week, while the Golden Eagles wait and see if they get a bid to the NCAA Tournament. Last season, the Cardinals fell to Akron in the NCAA title match.
