Men's Soccer Gathers For End-of-Year Awards Banquet
Jan. 15, 2014
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's soccer team started the new semester by getting together at the Milwaukee Marriott Downtown on Monday night for the squad's annual team awards banquet.
The annual awards banquet is time to recognize the leaders and top performers on and off the pitch from the previous season (see "2013 Team Awards" at bottom of the page), and an opportunity to thank all the support staff involved in the program's success.
Highlights from Marquette's 2013 BIG EAST regular-season and tournament championship run were shown on a projection screen during the dinner. Gathered were team members and coaches, in addition to athletic trainers and administrators in the areas of academic support, game management, athletic communications, marketing, compliance and facilities.
Head coach Louis Bennett opened the program by thanking all of the members of the support staff before recognizing the senior class as the group who developed the "blueprint" for the next group and future MU footballers to follow. In addition to more BIG EAST hardware and back-to-back appearances in the NCAA tournament (including the program's first-ever Sweet 16), Bennett also congratulated the lads for their performance in the classroom - a total of 16 players finished with a grade point average of 3.5 or above.
As tradition, the senior class spoke to the group one-by-one to close the banquet.
