Mallace's MLS SuperDraft Selection Earns Him Student-Athlete of the Week

 Calum Mallace is the Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by The Opus Group, after becoming the first player in Marquette men's soccer history to be selected in the Major League Soccer SuperDraft Thursday afternoon.

Mallace was selected 20th overall with the first pick of the second round by the expansion Montreal Impact. The Impact's draft (Mallace and No. 1-overall pick Andrew Wenger) was given an A+ by, the highest grade given to an MLS franchise.

The 2011 BIG EAST Conference Midfielder of the Year helped Marquette to its first BIG EAST Blue Division championship this past fall and finished his MU career with 39 points on 13 goals and 13 assists.

Jan. 9 Katie Young Women's Basketball Young scored a career-high 18 points in Saturday's 69-60 win over Seton Hall, while shooting 6-of-9 from the floor in 21 minutes of action. The Kenosha, Wis., native also notched career bests of five 3-pointers and five rebounds without a turnover.
Jan. 2 Darius Johnson-Odom Men's Basketball Johnson-Odom matched a season high with 24 points against Villanova Sunday afternoon, helping Marquette begin BIG EAST play 1-0 for the second-straight season with a 81-77 win over the Wildcats.
Dec. 26 Katherine Plouffe Women's Basketball Plouffe was named to the BIG EAST Conference Honor Roll after helping the women's basketball team to a 2-0 week with wins over South Dakota State and Vermont. Plouffe averaged 18.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game in the victories.
Dec. 19 Todd Mayo Men's Basketball Mayo was named to the BIG EAST Conference Men's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll Monday for his 22-point outburst in Marquette's 93-72 victory over Northern Colorado on Saturday, Dec.17 at the Bradley Center.
Dec. 12 Jae Crowder Men's Basketball Crowder began the week by hitting the game-winning 3-pointer with 6.3 seconds to play Tuesday against Washington in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden and ended it with a team-high 21 points in Saturday's win over Green Bay.
Dec. 5 Ciara Jones Women's Volleyball

Jones helped Marquette to a 3-1 victory over No. 24 Western Kentucky in the first round of the NCAA tournament with a match-high 17 kills. The Orlando, Fla., native also notched 10 kills in the Golden Eagles' second round loss at No. 7 Illinois. Jones ends her career with 1,140 kills, tying her for sixth place on Marquette's all-time list, while her hitting percentage of .234 ties her for ninth in program history.

Nov. 28 Chelsea Heier Women's Volleyball Heier was named the 2011 BIG EAST Conference Freshman of the Year and helped the women's volleyball team to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. She led the conference and finished seventh in the NCAA with 11.90 assists per set as a first-year player.
Nov. 21 Sarina Simmons Women's Basketball Simmons notched a career-high 23 points in Tuesday's 54-52 win over the Badgers and 22 points, the second-highest of her career, in Saturday's loss to Georgia Tech at the Bradley Center. 
Nov. 14 Taylor Madigan Women's Soccer Madigan notched her sixth game-winning goal of the season to send Marquette past Toledo in the first round of the NCAA Championship. It was her eighth tally of the season and second overtime game winner as MU moves on to face Penn State in the NCAA Second Round on Friday.
Nov. 7 Kerry McBride Women's Soccer McBride earned repeat BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year honors and was named to the Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 First Team. She anchored an MU back line that limited the opposition to just 2.5 shots on goal per game and is a civil engineering major with a 3.52 GPA.
Oct. 31 Chelsea Heier Women's Volleyball Heier averaged 12.83 assists per set in 3-0 sweeps at Pittsburgh and West Virginia, while helping the Golden Eagles hit a season-high .396 against the Panthers. The San Clemente, Calif., native earned her fourth BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honor Monday afternoon for her role in the perfect weekend.
Oct. 24 C. Nortey Men's Soccer Nortey recorded his first collegiate hat trick in MU's 3-0 victory at Seton Hall on Oct. 22. Nortey leads the team in goals scored and has helped the team to first place in the BIG EAST Blue Division standings, with 18 points in league play.
Oct. 17 Sebastian Jansson Men's Soccer Jansson scored both game-winning goals in Marquette's back-to-back wins over nationally ranked opponents this week as the Golden Eagles improved to 5-0-0 in the BIG EAST, MU's best start in league play in 47 years of men's soccer.
Oct. 10 Michael Motz Men's Golf Motz finished tied for second place after shooting a 1-under-par 71 Sunday in the final round of the John Dallio Memorial in Lemont, Ill. Motz opened with rounds of 74 and 72, respectively. The sophomore then made five birdies Sunday to finish at 217 for the tourney and posted his best finish in 11 collegiate events.
Oct. 3 Danielle Carlson Women's Volleyball Carlson hit .508 over the weekend to improve her BIG EAST-leading hitting percentage to .412 on the season. She also helped MU improve to 3-0 in the BIG EAST for the first time in program history. The Golden Eagles are 13-4 overall and winners of 10 of their last 11 matches.
Sept. 26 C. Nortey Men's Soccer Nortey scored two goals in men's soccer's 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Syracuse, including the game winner in the 87th minute, Saturday evening. Nortey has notched five goals on the season with three coming in the last two wins over Michigan and Syracuse.
Sept. 19 David Check Men's Soccer Check helped the Marquette University men's soccer team to a 1-0-1 record over the weekend. He made nine saves and assisted on the game-winning goal with 51 seconds remaining in double-overtime in a 2-1 come-from-behind victory Sunday at Michigan.
Sept. 12 Ashley Beyer Women's Volleyball Beyer averaged 4.22 kills and 2.33 digs per set in sweeps of Southern Miss, Akron and Milwaukee on her way to claiming Marquette/Milwaukee Invitational MVP honors. The Bloomington, Ill., native also notched her second double-double of the season against Southern Miss with 10 kills and 13 digs.
Sept. 5 Maegan Kelly Women's Soccer Kelly notched four goals and two assists in Marquette's 9-0 victory over North Dakota on Sunday, Sept. 4. The Kansas City native's 10 points and four goals both tied program records and she is the seventh Marquette player to record a hat trick.
Aug. 29 Ally Miller Women's Soccer

Miller earned 2011 MKE Cup MVP honors for her efforts in MU's two wins over Saint Louis and No. RV/23 Long Beach State. She was integral in the Golden Eagles' defensive effort in the two wins, as she helped limit the Billikens and the 49ers to seven shots and only three on goal. Miller was also named the BIG EAST Conference's Defensive Player of the Week for the second time of her career Monday.

Aug. 22 Lindsey Page Women's Soccer

Page notched the overtime winner in women's soccer's 1-0 triumph over Northwestern Sunday, Aug. 27 at Valley Fields. The Alsip, Ill., native scored the golden goal in the 94th minute of play on a 12-yard shot to beat the Wildcats' goalkeeper Anna Cassell to the far post.

Aug. 15 Kate Reigle Women's Soccer

Reigle scored one of Marquette's two goals in its preseason opener at the University of Wisconsin on Saturday, Aug. 13. Reigle gave Marquette a 2-0 advantage at the 66:42 mark on a header served up by freshman Haley Fritzlen.

Aug. 8 Junior Cadougan Men's Basketball Cadougan earned most valuable player honors for the second-straight season at the Scion Dental Milwaukee Summer Pro-Am. He averaged 22.2 points, 11.4 assists and 7.3 rebounds per game, while leading his squad to a perfect 9-0 mark during the regular season. He notched two triple-doubles in league play, including a 14-point, 12-rebound and 39-assist performance on Friday, July 22 against MU teammates Vander Blue and Jamail Jones.
Aug. 1 Katherine Plouffe Women's Basketball Plouffe played an integral role in the Team Canada's fifth place finish at the U19 FIBA Women's World Championship  as she averaged 8.0 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while connecting on 46.2 percent of her attempts from the floor over the nine-game tournament. The Canadians finished 8-1 overall.
July 25 Sam Kennedy Track & Field Kennedy placed sixth in the hammer throw at the 2011 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships in Miramar, Fla., on July 22. She recorded a top toss of 169 feet, 5 inches (51.65 meters) to earn three points for Team Canada.
July 18 Maegan Kelly Women's Soccer Kelly led all scorers with five goals at the U.S. Youth Soccer Region II U19 Championship while playing with her club team, Mallorca. Kelly scored both goals in a 2-1 win over CASA (Ohio) and in a 2-0 win over Iowa Rush in the preliminary round. She added a goal in a 2-2 draw with Eclipse Select before Mallorca won in penalty kicks, 3-2, in the semifinals to advance to the Region II Championship game. Mallorca fell in the title game, 2-0, to Minnesota's Woodbury Inferno.
July 11 David Check Men's Soccer Check posted a clean sheet in a 5-0 win for Milwaukee Bavarian SC over Eau Claire Aris FC on Saturday, July 9, as the goalkeeper helped Bavarian clinch its first National Premier Soccer League Midwest Division Championship and earn a berth in the NPSL finals later this month.
July 5 Olivia Johnson Track & Field/Cross Country Johnson earned Captial One Academic All-America® First Team regognition on June 23, joining men's runner Peter Bolgert as the first Marquette student-athletes to earn first team honors since 1997. The Milford, Iowa native sports a perfect 4.0 grade point average in Marquette's nationally recognized accounting program.
