Men's Soccer Signs Three to 2017 Recruiting Class
Feb. 8, 2017
MILWAUKEE – Marquette University head men’s soccer coach Louis Bennett has announced the first three signees for his 2017 recruiting class. Signing letters of intent were a trio of local products from the Milwaukee area: Tode Atlija, Roland Conway and Zak Wegner.
“I’m really happy about this class so far,” Bennett said. “These guys are all local and I believe we got three of the top-seven to 10 players in Wisconsin. It’s a solid start as we look to add two or three more players to our 2017 class.”
All three signees will enroll in the fall semester and have four seasons of eligibility.
Tode Atlija | Forward | Franklin, Wis.
Comments from Coach Bennett: “Tode can play multiple forward positions. He’s a classic center or a wide forward and a rugged-type of player. He’s made a lot of sacrifices for his game already after spending a year in Serbia, studying and playing with top-level teams there before returning to Wisconsin to finish high school and sign his letter of intent at Marquette. He has the potential to be one of those special forwards. We’re very fortunate to have another addition [to Luka Prpa] from the Serbian community in Milwaukee."
Roland Conway | Midfielder | Milwaukee, Wis.
Comments from Coach Bennett: “Roland’s style is a crafty [holding midfielder] with the ability to break up plays defensively and create plays with the ball. He has experience locally as well as with the academy, so he’s well-suited to our style and will fit in well. He also has good 'blueprints' to form his game and is a valuable addition to our midfield."
Zak Wegner | Midfielder | Hartland, Wis.
Comments from Coach Bennett: “He’s a mobile, athletic soccer player that can play in the middle of the field as well as out wide. Every time we went to see him, he showed very well. His mobility, the quality of his passing, and moving are going to be important in the college game for us.”
