MILWAUKEE
- It's the dawn of the 2015 Major League Soccer season and that means three Marquette University men's soccer alumni Calum Mallace ('11), Axel Sjoberg ('14) and Charlie Lyon ('14) will begin, with their respective clubs, the quest for an MLS Cup.

The season officially gets underway tonight when Chicago visits the LA Galaxy, while the rest of the league will commence regular season play this weekend.

Mallace, who was the first-ever Marquette player to be taken in the MLS Superdraft, was selected 20thoverall by the Montreal Impact in 2012. He appeared in 23 games (12 starts) in 2014, recording a goal and three assists.

Ahead of his team's MLS opener against DC United, theTorphichen, Scotland nativedelivered an incredible pass that led to a Cameron Porter goal in a Concacaf Champions League semifinal match against Pachuca. The goal earned a draw for the Impact and advanced them by way of away-goals tie-breaker in the aggregate.

Sjoberg, who completed his tenure at Marquette in the fall, will begin his rookie campaign after the Colorado Rapids traded up to take him 14thoverall in the 2015 MLS Superdraft. The Stockholm, Sweden native has already experienced a taste of success after heading in a goal in a preseason win over FC Tucson in mid-February.

Lyon, who went down as the most decorated goalkeeper in Marquette history when his career came to a close in the fall, will start his rookie season with the Seattle Sounders after they selected him 75thoverall in the 2015 MLS Superdraft. The St. Charles, Illinois native had eight shutouts for the Golden Eagles last season and his postseason awards were highlighted by a 2014 Senior CLASS Award Second Team All-America selection.

Currently unsigned, Lyon is hopeful to be offered a contract as the third keeper for the Sounders when they open up play at home against New England on Sunday.
