March 10, 2016
2016 Spring Schedule
The Golden Eagles are changing the format to their annual Blue & Gold spring scrimmage, combining it with an Alumni game and making it a futsal competition inside the Al McGuire Center on Sunday at 2 p.m. Up to 30 alumni are expected to participant in the event, which is open to the public.
“It's great to have an alumni base that has an interest in what and how we are doing things," coach Bennett said. "We are all excited to receive the old boys back on campus to display their skills and check out our new batch of players. I would encourage new and old fans to come on down and see the lads put on a show.”
The team, which has been training for most of the spring semester, kicked off its competition portion of the spring with a late-night contest at Northwestern back on Feb. 19. Following Sunday’s festivities, Marquette will jump back into competition season on Saturday, April 2, when its hosts two full matches against UW-Green Bay at noon and UW-Parkside at 7 p.m. Both games will be held on the west turf field at Valley Fields.
MU’s third competition date of the year will take place on April 9 with the Annual “Bob Sumy Classico” against UW-Milwaukee, set for 7 p.m. at Valley Fields. In their only meeting during the 2015 season, both teams played to a 1-1 draw in front of an Engelmann Stadium record crowd of 4,030. The Golden Eagles retained possession of the Milwaukee Cup after a 2-0 win at Valley Fields in 2014.
Following a more formal outdoor alumni event on Saturday, April 16, the Golden Eagles will wrap up the spring competition schedule with the MKE Torrent (7 p.m.) on April 23, against UW-Madison (7 p.m.) on April 30. Both games will take place at Valley Fields.
