MU Set To Face USF Thursday in First Round of BIG EAST Tourney

Nationally Ranked UConn Tops Marquette 3-0 In Final Match of Regular Season

April 2, 2009

MILWAUKEE - Marquette University has cancelled it's men's soccer match with UW-Parkside slated for this Saturday, April 4, due to the mounting number of injuries MU players have suffered this spring. MU will still play UW-Milwaukee at 7 p.m. Saturday, as originally scheduled, at Shorewood High School in the annual Bob Summy Memorial game.

Summy was a longtime supporter of local collegiate soccer and a close friend of both the Golden Eagles' and Panthers' coaching staffs. Each year the two schools have gathered in the spring to play a game in Summy's honor following his untimely passing in 2005.

Due to what Marquette University head men's soccer coach Louis Bennett has  referred to as a catalogue of injuries (see "Current Injury List" below),  the Golden Eagles have been forced to scale back on their original plan of playing a pair of matches on each of their scheduled dates of competition this spring.

The original plan had allowed the MU coaching staff to experiment with a combination of players on the field during the exhibition season in an effort to identify which personnel groups could provide the Golden Eagles their best opportunity against their opponents come fall.

However, more injuries -- most notably to senior Dan Addis and freshman Paul Monsen -- were diagnosed following the team's recent trip to Faribault, Minn., where Marquette played two contests on March 29.

Please continue to check back during the spring for any new announcements regarding the 2009 spring schedule, in addition to breaking news and updates.

Current Injury List
Scott Miller – Ankle (surgery)
Keenan Flynn – Ankle (fracture)
Dan Addis – Knee
Paul Monsen – Ankle
