Golden Eagles To Host Milwaukee Wave Saturday

April 8, 2011

MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette University men's soccer team continues its spring season Saturday, April 9, when the Golden Eagles host the Milwaukee Wave of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) in an exhibition match at Valley Fields. Kickoff is 3 p.m. CT and admission and parking are free.

The Wave, which makes its indoor home at the U.S. Cellular Arena located just blocks from the MU campus, have won five league championships since 1998 season and are the defending MISL champions.

Many former Marquette players have gone on to play professionally with the Wave, including Nathan Sabich who played with the Golden Eagles from 2003-06 and is expected to suit up for head coach Keith Tozer's squad this Saturday.

MU head coach Louis Bennett and volunteer assistant coach Marcelo Santos are also Wave alums.

Marquette remains undefeated in six spring matches. The team is coming off 4-0 and 3-0 split-squad victories this past Saturday over Cardinal Stritch University and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, respectively.

Andy Huftalin tallied three first-half goals against Cardinal Stritch. Three different players scored against UW-Parkside later that afternoon, led by Adam Lysak, who registered a goal and an assist in the win over the Rangers.

The weekend prior, MU traveled to Shattuck-St. Mary's School in Faribault, Minn., for a neutral friendly versus the Thunder Bay Chill, who reached the finals of PDL North American Championship in 2010.

Highlighted by three first-half goals by Adam Lysak, the Golden Eagles cruised to a 6-0 shutout over the Chill and their mixed squad of reserve players. MU then went on to claim a 4-0 decision in a 20-minute reserve match.

MU opened the spring slate on March 5 with a 1-1 draw vs. UIC followed by a 6-0 win over the Milwaukee Bavarians.
