Golden Eagles Blank Viterbo, Wisconsin

STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- Marquette dazzled a crowd of over 600 spectators at the Ministry Sports Medicine College Soccer Festival with an 8-0 rout Sunday over Viterbo followed by a 2-0 win over Wisconsin.

The Golden Eagles remained undefeated in spring play with the pair of victories and have outscored their opponents 34-0 in the last eight contests.

Goalkeeper David Check continued his shutout streak by posting back-to-back clean sheets Sunday.

Bryan Ciesiulka scored both Marquette goals in the win over the Badgers. His putback in the 46th minute marked the go-ahead tally followed by an insurance goal less than 10 minutes later.

A strike by Amilcar Herrera in the first half was disallowed due to an offside call.

Marquette lineup vs. Wisconsin: Check, Alfano, Sjoberg, Pothast, Dillon, Robb, Mallace, Ciesiulka, Madsen, Lysak, Herrera (Janssen 60).

Earlier in the day, five different MU players found the back of the net as the Golden Eagles mounted a 6-0 halftime advantage against Viterbo. Marquette was led by Andy Huftalin who scored three times and added three assists.

Marquette lineup vs. Viterbo: Check, Holowaty, Monsen, Mau, Dillon, (Herrera 30/Janssen 60), Selvaggi, Leonard, Sierra, Mallace (Ciesiulka 30/Pothast 60), Kelly, Huftalin. 

Head coach Louis Bennett's squad will wrap up the spring campaign on May 1 when the Golden Eagles host the Wisconsin Division I Cup at Valley Fields. MU will open with the Milwaukee Panthers at 10 a.m. CT and will play the winner/loser of Wisconsin vs. Green Bay (1:30 p.m./2 p.m.).
