MU Set To Face USF Thursday in First Round of BIG EAST Tourney

Nationally Ranked UConn Tops Marquette 3-0 In Final Match of Regular Season

April 25, 2009

MILWAUKEE -- A batch of strong thunderstorms that moved through southeastern Wisconsin forced the cancellation of the Brunswick Wisconsin D-I Cup after play was suspended for a second time Saturday at Valley Fields due to lightning and heavy rain.

Marquette and Wisconsin were scoreless when officials first pulled players players off the field approximately 15 minutes into the match. UW-Milwaukee and UW-Green Bay players were also escorted off, as all four teams tried to wait out the inclement weather.

Both games were allowed to resume following the initial delay, which lasted over an hour. But thunderstorm activity picked back up shortly thereafter forcing the coaching staffs to agree on cancellation the remainder of the exhibition tournament.

The Golden Eagles were able to get on the scoreboard, however, moments before play was suspended for the second time. Hector Navarro drew a couple Badgers defenders into the right corner of the box and found Nick Kay all alone. Kay needed just one touch off Navarro's pass to find the back of the net to give MU a 1-0 lead.

Saturday marked the end of Marquette's spring exhibition season, as the games will re-scheduled.
