Bennett Announces Addition of Fletcher, Larsson
April 29, 2014
MILWAUKEE -- Head coach Louis Bennett has announced the addition of two more incoming recruits. Signing National Letters of Intent are Brian Fletcher (O'Fallon, Mo.) and Jesper Larsson (Halmstad, Sweden).
Fletcher joins a trio of signees starting their careers in 2014 with four years of eligibility remaining. Jesper, who won't be coming to Marquette until January 2015, will begin practicing with the squad next spring and will have four years of eligibility remaining.
Larsson, a central midfielder, trained with Falkenberg of the Allsvenskan League (Premier League).
"Jesper committing means we have now added another dynamic to our squad," said Head Coach Louis Bennett. "He is a high-quality midfielder with a good pedigree playing for a U-23 Premier League junior team in Sweden and is only 18 years old. He is going to fit in very well with our program."
Fletcher, an outside halfback, trained with St. Louis Scott Gallagher Soccer Club and was a 2012 U.S. Club Soccer National Champion as well as a 2011 Manchester United Premier Cup Participant.
"Brian was a true bonus ball for our program," said Bennett. "Our coaches saw his strong character, ambition and playing style when he came to campus for one of our ID camps and we became very interested. ... We got him very late. I'm surprised a player of his quality was still out there."
"Initially, I was drawn to Marquette due to its academic reputation," Fletcher told TopDrawerSoccer.com. "Once I was presented with the opportunity to play soccer for Marquette, I knew it was the right fit for me. As a student athlete, Marquette is a dream come true."
Highly-touted signee Andrija Novakovich recently signed a professional contract with English Football League Championship club Reading FC and will no longer be joining the Marquette soccer program.
Rounding out MU's 2014 class are Martin Alba, Danny Jarosz and Colin Koerber. TopDrawerSoccer.com ranked MU's 2014 recruiting class in the top 10 in all of NCAA Division I.
Marquette men's soccer concludes its spring schedule this Saturday when it hosts the Wisconsin D1 Spring Challenge at Valley Fields.
