Steffen Böhm Added to the Marquette Soccer Roster

May 4, 2017

MILWAUKEE – Marquette University head coach Louis Bennett has announced the signing of Steffen Böhm to the men’s soccer program. Böhm is a versatile defender and transfer from Florida International. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

A native of Duisburg, Germany, Böhm brings with him some much-needed experience and maturity to the Golden Eagles after having played multiple defensive positions in two seasons for FIU.

“He has a great soccer background and is another vital piece to fit into the puzzle,” Bennett said. “It’s a position we need experience and that’s what he brings. Coming in as a junior, he will be able to provide versatility whether it be at centerback or as an attacking right back.”

Böhm helped the Panthers to back-to-back Conference USA championship appearances, including a league title and NCAA Tournament berth in 2015. That same season, Böhm was named a unanimous C-USA All-Freshmen team selection after appearing in 14 games and contributing to a backline that recorded a 1.28 goals against average with three shutouts.

“He’s taller and very good technically, which along with his experience gives him confidence,” Bennett added. “He’s a good student and ambitious in both academics and soccer and he’s really going to fit in well with the way we do things at Marquette. We’re very excited to add him to our club.”

Böhm logged immense experience in some of Germany's top youth leagues, having played club soccer since 2001. Prior to his freshman season at FIU, he played for MSV Duisburg's U19 squad of the Bundesliga for three seasons, appearing in 33 matches spanning over 2,800 minutes of action.
