Former MU Standout, Ciesiulka Tabbed Assistant Coach

May 24, 2018

MILWAUKEE - Former Marquette-great and a key contributor during the program's successful run from 2011-13, Bryan Ciesiulka ('13), is returning to Milwaukee after accepting an assistant role on head coach Louis Bennett's staff.

Ciesiulka is one of the most decorated men's soccer student-athletes to step foot at Marquette University, collecting numerous accolades on and off the pitch, and was the second MU player ever drafted in the MLS SuperDraft following his fourth-round selection by the Chicago Fire in 2014.

"This is a great hire for us," Bennett said. "He comes full circle following his time as a student, a player, a captain and a leader for the most successful team ever at Marquette. Now, he returns with the ability to pass along his first-hand knowledge to our student-athletes.

"'B' gives us another layer of insight and quality and, in today's coaching world, knowledge is key. You want to be able to transcribe the message in many different ways so that all players understand exactly what is needed and where we're going. `B' is going to help us do that. We're very fortunate to bring in quality Marquette people into our program. For him to want to come back and be part of this, it's an honor."

Ciesiulka recently completed his second coaching season at the high school level, leading the Hinsdale Central girls' soccer team to a six-win improvement from the previous year and a run to the regional final. He received his coaching start in 2017, taking the reigns of the Proviso East High School boys' team in 2017.

"I would like to thank (President) Michael Lovell, (VP and Director of Athletics) Bill Scholl and Louis Bennett for giving me this opportunity," Ciesiulka said. "Coaching at this level is something I've been wanting to do and to be able to do it at my alma mater is very special. I'm so grateful and I can't thank them enough.

"What excites me the most is the guys in the locker room. I know how hard the players and staff work and I'm looking forward to seeing what they're going to put out on the field."

He was a two-time All-BIG EAST performer and claimed the league's co-midfielder of the year award in 2013. That same season, he was a Senior CLASS Award finalist and first team All-American, in addition to being selected as the BIG EAST Scholar Athlete Sport Excellence award winner. He was a CoSIDA Academic All-American Second Team honoree in 2012 and an NSCAA (now United Soccer Coaches) Scholar All-American Third Team pick in 2013.

He led Marquette to the 2013 BIG EAST tournament title and a second-straight appearance in the NCAA tournament where the Golden Eagles marched all the way to the Sweet 16.

After being drafted by the Chicago Fire, he was released prior to the start of the 2014 season and later signed with Swedish club Gimo IF FK. He returned stateside for the 2015 season, joining with USL club Saint Louis FC before entering the business world and earning his first head coaching position at Proviso East High School in 2017.

A native of Naperville, Illinois, Ciesiulka attended Neuqua Valley High School where he was named an NSCAA/Adidas All-American and the Gatorade Illinois Boys Soccer Player of the Year as a senior in 2009.
