Josh Hancock Rounds Out Marquette's 2018 Class
June 11, 2018
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's soccer program, led by head coach Louis Bennett and his staff, announced on Monday the addition of Josh Hancock as the final member of the program's 13-member 2018 incoming class. Hancock will enroll in the fall and have four years of eligibility remaining.
The 6-foot-3-inch center back hails from Torbay, England and recently completed his 10th and final season with Exeter City FC's youth and scholarship program. His U18 squad, which won an EFL Youth Alliance division championship for the second-straight season, compiled a record of 15-2-3 with a goal differential of +50. Hancock contributed six goals and 14 clean sheets from the backline.
"Josh has worked hard on his game at a high level and is very suited to the way we play," Bennett said. "He's a player that will compete for everything and fit in well with what our existing back line have and are establishing. He brings a presence and quality in the air at 6-3, which will increase both our defensive guard and attacking potential. Once he's acclimated and understands our brand, style and language, I believe he'll compete and add to our communication and organizational structure in the back line.
"We have already seen huge improvement at the defensive section of the team in the spring, especially at center back position with senior Ruben Sanchez leading the way," Bennett added. "The newcomers Josh and Oliver Posarelli add another layer of quality along with returners Leo Villa and Cade Dombrowski. Quality in numbers is a big positive for our team."
As a youth player, Hancock played against many premier league academy teams, including Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool, Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur.
He captained the U16 squad during the 2015-16 season and was called up to the U21 team on three occasions during his final campaign.
Hancock completes a well-rounded and talented 13-member recruiting class, which represents four states and five countries, plus the US Virgin Islands, and includes four early spring enrollees (Alan Salmeron, Lukas Sunesson, Josh Coan, Leo Villa) who joined the program in January.
The full 2018 season schedule was released and features five returning NCAA tournament teams and 11 home fixtures, beginning with an exhibition against Loyola-Chicago at Valley Fields on Saturday, Aug. 11.
