MILWAUKEE - Redshirt junior forward C. Nortey of the nationally ranked Marquette University men's soccer team earned a spot on the 2014 Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy Watch List, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced Wednesday.

The Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious award in Division I college soccer, and has been given to the most outstanding male and female player each year since 1967. In 2002, the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) and NSCAA merged their player of the year awards with the Hermann Trophy to create the unified award as it exists today.

Nortey, a 2013 All-BIG EAST First Team selection, is one of 32 men's players on the preseason watch list. The NSCAA member coaches will narrow that list to 15 semifinalists near the end of the season. The top three vote getters will then be announced as finalists in early December, and will be invited to the trophy presentation banquet on Jan. 9, 2015, at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, where the winner will be announced.

Three other BIG EAST players were named to the men's watch list, as Georgetown's Brandon Allen and Joshua Yaro joined Nortey, Marquette's active leader in career goals with 19, alongside Tim Parker of St. John's.

Nortey will begin making his case for the MAC Hermann Trophy on Aug. 29, when the Golden Eagles open their 50th anniversary season against defending national champion Notre Dame at the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic in Bloomington, Indiana.
