MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's soccer team is ranked No. 12 in the NSCAA/Continental Tire Preseason Poll released Wednesday.
The defending BIG EAST Conference champions seek their third league title in four years. Marquette returns seven starters led by three All-America candidates in goalie Charlie Lyon, 6-foot-7 Swedish central defender Axel Sjoberg and Ghanaian striker C. Nortey.
Lyon and Sjoberg have anchored a defensive unit that has posted 10 shutouts in each of the past two seasons while Nortey has amassed 19 career goals in just two years, joining the conversation as one of the nation's top scoring threats.
The Golden Eagles also bring back BIG EAST All-Rookie Team selections Louis Bennett II (also BIG EAST Honorable Mention in 2014) and Coco Navarro who combined for 24 offensive points on seven goals and 10 assists.
According to many national media members, ninth-year head coach Louis Bennett has brought in one of the best recruiting classes in the country after the Golden Eagles earned its sixth straight postseason berth in 2013, highlighted by its first BIG EAST tournament championship and first-ever run to the NCAA Round of 16.
Season tickets are currently available for purchase by contacting the Marquette Athletic Ticket office. For $45, you'll receive a reserved chair back seat at Valley Fields for all 21 home men's and women's soccer games this fall as well as a free 2014 MU Soccer scarf.
