MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men’s soccer team held its first training session on Wednesday to mark the official start of the 2015 season.

The Golden Eagles began by going over the day’s practice plan, which applied focus to head coach Louis Bennett’s tactics on the defensive side of the ball. After a light warm-up led by Calvin Deutsch, a new addition to the performance/conditioning staff this season, the team embarked on a fast-paced and intense 90-minute training session.

The majority of drills were based on finding the correct spacing between the midfielders and defenders. The position players split up and worked on separate halves of the field, while the goalies did some individual work.

At the end, the team came together in a 9-on-9 drill before concluding with a fun cross bar shootout from the top of the 18-yard box.

Today marked the first full practice on the newly installed FieldTurf Revolution surface at Valley Fields.

The Golden Eagles will hold their annual Blue & Gold scrimmage on Thursday, Aug. 13, at 7 p.m. followed by Fan Fest on Friday at 5 p.m. and the team’s first exhibition game of the preseason against Bradley on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. All three events will be held at Valley Fields.
