Official BIG EAST Release

NEW YORK –
Sophmore midfielder Luka Prpa was selected to the All-BIG EAST Conference Preseason Team, while the Marquette University men’s soccer squad was voted to finish seventh as the league announced its annual survey of the league’s head coaches.

Prpa burst onto the scene in 2016, netting numerous national weekly honors and registering the league’s second-highest point total with 26 points on 10 goals and six assists. He was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Year.

The West Lake, Wis., native started all 16 matches last season for the Golden Eagles, who finished tied for eighth in the league after posting a mark of 5-7-4 (2-5-2 BIG EAST). Prpa is one of 10 returning letter winners in 2017, including one of eight starters. MU added 10 offseason additions, including six freshmen and four college transfers.

NCAA Quarterfinalist and reigning BIG EAST regular season champion Providence was the unanimous pick by the coaches to repeat in 2017 and featured the league’s preseason Offensive Player of the Year in Mac Steeves.

The Golden Eagles will take on Loyola Chicago on the road Saturday in the squad’s final preseason exhibition before kicking off the regular season at Kentucky on Friday, Aug. 25.
