Ciesiulka Named Candidate for Senior CLASS Award
Aug 21, 2013
MILWAUKEE – Marquette University midfielder Bryan Ciesiulka is one of 30 candidates for the 2013 men’s soccer Senior CLASS Award, it was announced Wednesday. The list is comprised of 30 NCAA Division I seniors who have notable achievements in four areas – community, classroom, character and competition.
Tabbed as “the nation’s premier award for NCAA senior student-athletes,” the Senior CLASS Award highlights outstanding student-athletes, while encouraging students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The 2013 list of candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 individuals will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will then be distributed through a nationwide voting system to fans, coaches and media.
Ciesiulka was a 2012-13 CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team selection and the recipient of the BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete Sport Excellence Award for men’s soccer given to just one student-athlete from each sport. He is on track to graduate in three and a half years with a degree in Mathematics and currently carries a cumulative grade point average of 3.726.
The Golden Eagles’ co-captain has passionately served his community since his arrival at Marquette. Perhaps most impressive: Ciesiulka spearheaded a campaign that raised $31,542.50 over a three-month period, which was used to fund a “MobilePack” event last year for the Feed My Starving Children organization. Furthermore, he led the effort to round up over 300 volunteers who spent an entire day packing the 110,000 meals for malnourished children in Haiti.
A Second Team All-BIG EAST Conference selection in 2012, Ciesiulka helped lead Marquette to its first NCAA tournament berth in 15 years as the No. 7 overall seed as well as MU’s first-ever BIG EAST Conference division title in 2011.
Ciesiulka has said he establishes a strong work ethic “to motivate and inspire his teammates to succeed in the classroom and to consistently pursue championships.”
