Official BIG EAST Release

NEW YORK – Freshman goalkeeper Luis Barraza earned a spot on the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll after making 11 saves in two starts and leading the Marquette University men’s soccer team to a 1-1 record over the weekend, the league office announced today, Aug. 31.

Barraza, a native of Santa Teresa, N.M., made his collegiate debut in the season opener against Oregon State and made several sprawling saves, ending the night with eight saves overall.

Unfortunately, the Golden Eagles fell as OSU’s Mikhail Doholis scored the game-winner and lone goal of the contest in the 97th minute, placing it in the left upper 90 as it ricocheted across the goal and into the right side netting.

Barraza and Marquette would bounce back to register a split on its West Coast road trip with a 4-2 win over Portland. The freshman made three saves for his first career victory.

The Golden Eagles return to action against UW-Milwaukee for the annual Milwaukee Cup, Thursday, Sept. 3. Kick off is set for 7 p.m. at Engelmann Stadium.
