MILWAUKEE -- Redshirt sophomore John Pothast and redshirt freshman Alex McBride were honored Monday by the BIG EAST Conference for their performances this past weekend as the Marquette University men's soccer team posted its first two victories of the season.

Pothast was awarded BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week after helping lead the MU defense to two shutout victories to claim the Milwaukee Panther Invitational title. The center back, who also earned College Soccer News National Team of the Week recognition, registered an assist in a 2-0 win against Gonzaga. Pothast helped seal a 1-0 clean sheet against Oregon State on Sunday when he cleared a ball off the goal line in the 88th minute.
