Official BIG EAST Release

NEW YORK – Junior defender Jake Taylor was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll thanks to his game-winning goal against Nebraska-Omaha, the league office announced Monday, Sept. 14.

Taylor is the third-straight Golden Eagle to make the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, joining previous honorees Luis Barraza (Aug. 31) and Louis Bennett II (Sept. 7). His 85th minute goal and defensive efforts helped hand Omaha its first loss of the season while extending Marquette’s unbeaten streak to four matches (3-0-1).

The Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin native was all alone at the far post following a Louis Bennett II free kick and John Pothast flick to put home the lone goal of the contest. It was his first goal of the season and fourth of his career with the Golden Eagles.

The shutout was the first for the Golden Eagles this season as Taylor and the backline kept the Omaha attack at bay in front of freshman goalkeeper Luis Barraza, who made five saves in his first career shutout.

Marquette (3-1-1) will look to remain undefeated at home as it takes on Northern Illinois (3-1-0) Friday, Sept. 18. Kickoff is set for 7:05 p.m. at Valley Fields.
