MILWAUKEE -- Redshirt juniors Axel Sjoberg (Stockholm, Sweden) and David Selvaggi (Elmhurst, Illinois) were honored Monday by the BIG EAST Conference for their performances this past weekend as the Marquette University men's soccer team secured its third straight shutout.

Sjoberg became the second MU central defender in as many weeks to claim BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors following teammate John Pothast, who picked up the award last Monday, while Selvaggi landed a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll.

Both players played key roles in Saturday's 2-0 home win over Drake. Sjoberg, the league's Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, again played all 90 minutes while helping the Golden Eagles extend their scoreless stretch to nearly 329 minutes.

Selvaggi scored both goals, his team-leading second and third tallies of the season, in the victory as the Golden Eagles (3-2-0) remained undefeated in 2014 on their home pitch. The forward put Marquette on the board in the 64th minute on tap-in inside the six-yard box. He later converted from the penalty spot to double MU's lead moments later.
