Official BIG EAST Release

NEW YORK - Redshirt senior forward C. Nortey turned in a five-point week with a pair of goals scored and, today, Oct. 5, was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll, the league office has announced.

The Accra, Ghana native registered two goals and an assist to go along with seven shots, including four on target, despite an 0-2 week for the Golden Eagles. He moved into sole possession of sixth place on the Marquette all-time goals list with 29 career goals and 10th on the all-time scoring list with 66 career points.

Both goals for Nortey put Marquette ahead, but unfortunately, his team was unable to hang on in each instance. His goal in the 67th minute against No. 7 Notre Dame (Sept. 29) gave MU a 2-1 advantage on the road. That came after he assisted the game's first goal by David Selvaggi in the seventh minute. Then, against Villanova (Oct. 3) on the road, he put the Golden Eagles ahead 1-0 with a strike in the 40th minute, but MU fell 2-1 in a disappointing setback.

This marks the fifth time in six weeks that a Marquette student-athlete has been honored by the BIG EAST.

Nortey has eight points on three goals and two assists so far this season and will aim score a goal in three straight games when the Marquette travels to UW-Madison in a non-conference tilt Wednesday, Oct. 7. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
